Wisteria Court
Wisteria Court is a quiet street of twelve houses with amber streetlamps and wisteria along the Pattersons' fence. In late spring the blooms come out purple and heavy, and the whole street smells almost too sweet. A low wooden fence divides number six from number seven, and Claire's kitchen window looks straight at number seven's front path.
Here's who lives where, as far as the book tells us. Houses one, eight, and eleven are never mentioned.
Inside number six
- A bench under the kitchen window with a view of the whole street. Claire sits there every morning at six.
- A key rack by the front door with four hooks.
- Tom's study, the smallest room in the house, at the end of the hall, with a glass panel beside the door. Inside are his old desk, a filing cabinet, and a lamp.
- A fireplace in the living room, with Tom's long matches on the mantel.
Inside number seven
- A rosebush by the front gate that the Lowells let go.
- A second bedroom Quinn sets up as a workspace.
- A shelf of about forty books, with one journal turned spine out.

Three slats in the fence between six and seven have gone soft near the corner, leaving a gap. Claire knows about it and uses it in Chapter 29: "A gap you know about is worth more than a fence you trust." By the end of the book, number seven has a SOLD sign, a new blue front door, and a young woman with a baby moving in during the first week of May, when the wisteria is in bloom.
