Sarah's Journal
Spine out on Quinn's shelf.
The journal is the first thing Quinn unpacks at number seven. It's an ordinary notebook with a cloth cover gone pale at the corners, a date in faded ink on the front, and handwriting with open-topped fours. Quinn shelves it with the spine facing out, knows it by heart, and talks to it on bad nights.

The journal belonged to Sarah and covers the last eighteen months of her life, from late summer through February. It records meeting Tom, "the woman" who started appearing at gatherings, friends going cool, the column Sarah kept, and the car on her street. Quinn has had it since she cleared out Sarah's apartment, and she had it appraised in Columbus five years ago to see whether it would hold up as evidence. Chapter 22 is the journal itself.
In Chapter 29, Claire tears out the November pages and burns them at Quinn's table while Quinn recites them from memory. Quinn leaves Wisteria Court with what's left of it, "thinner than it used to be."
